Stay in a flea….

Ever wanted to sleep in a museum, or become a piece of art?  Hotel Everland can make both those dreams come true.

Everland is a one room parasite hotel.  By parasite I mean it is latched onto another building, kind of like an architectural flea.  In this case the flea is perched on the roof of the Palais de Tokyo, a modern art museum in Paris across the Seine River from the Eiffel Tower.

Everland was created by Swiss artist duo L/B (Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann) as an installation that deals with architecture and space.  The most important part of their artwork are the guests that stay the night in the installation.  L/B urges guests to steal the towels and enjoy the vintage record collection as they soak in the magnificent view of the Eiffel Tower, from the futuristic-meets-retro hotel room.

“Becoming one” with this work of art is tricky and expensive as the hotel only allows guests to book one night at 333-444 €.  Bookings can only be made 60 days in advance and become available at random times on their website, everland.ch.  

As of now Everland is scheduled to stay in Paris until Spring 2009 and the future location is yet to be released.

Louvre trap door

If you go to Paris at the peak of tourist season, you are probably going to wait in that super long line to enter the Louvre Museum that wraps around the courtyard and enters through the glass pyramid.  

Here is a tip to avoid the line entirely.  If you are standing at the pyramid and face the Tuileries gardens you will see a mini Arc de Triomphe like structure, walk to over to it (trust me get out of line now), and next to it you will see an inconspicuous staircase leading underground…..follow it.

You will then find yourself in the Carrousel de Louvre underground mall, follow the signs to the Louvre museum and within minutes you will be buying your entrance tickets and be staring at the Mona Lisa…..or at least trying to through the see of tourist heads.
