Sleep easy

The U-shaped travel pillow has been re-invented…..for the better.

The TravelRest is an ergonomically shaped travel pillow that works with the natural way you sleep in a chair…..if you can consider sleeping in a chair natural!

Unlike the U-shaped pillows that push your neck forward, the TravelRest lets you comfortably sleep with your head supported to the side.

I used the TravelRest on this past trip and found it to be the most comfortable travel pillow I have ever used. At first I thought it would be hard to blow up because of it’s size, but it was actually quite quick to inflate and easy to deflate upon landing.

The top of the pillow is secured to your seat with an attached cord and the smaller end loops and snaps onto your seatbelt….this way the pillow is securely in place and will not shift too much while you sleep.

For couples, one TravelRest can provide a pillow for two…..as my husband and I discovered.  Due to it’s upright positioning, we were able to place it between both are heads, lean in and fall fast asleep.

Once the flight is over, it rolls up easily and can snap to the top of your carry-on.

Medicate me

Filed under: Health, Tip of the Week

When in Europe if you are not feeling well, don’t be afraid to pop into a pharmacy to get medicated.

Unlike the US, pharmacists in Europe have the authority to give you medication based on the symptoms you have.  No need to find a doctor if all you need are antibiotics.

Plus, all drugs are very inexpensive since the government subsidizes the medication…..and foreigners get to take advantage of the subsidy as well!

All pharmacy’s in Europe are easy to find as they have a glowing ‘Las Vegas’ style green cross (more like a plus sign) above their doors.

And for those afraid of speaking another language, don’t fear as many pharmacist speak english or can direct you to another pharmacy that does.

This weeks’ “Architectural Marvel(s)” are the food stalls of the Djemma El Fna square in the heart of the Marrakech medina.

Every night this barren square is transformed into endless rows of open air restaurants.  These “restaurants” come wheeled in on small carts and somehow magically transform into a full service kitchen, and seating for 20 or more, in less than an hour.

I consider this phenomenon an architectural marvel because of the ingenuity used to make portable restaurants, and for the fact that these “mobile” restaurants have had long term staying power….this is not just a trend that will disappear….the food stalls are here to stay.

Kayak.com

While making arrangements for this last trip, I relied heavily on Kayak.com

Kayak is a search engine for travel sites…..think of it like the google of travel.  When you search for a flight, hotel, car rental, cruise or vacation…..Kayak searches hundreds of travel booking websites for the best deal available, then shows you the results in an easy to read list.

My favorite feature is the “fare alerts.”  If there is a destination you are looking to go to and have a set budget, have kayak do the search work for you.  The results can be sent in a weekly or daily email, or in a RSS feed.

Why spend your time searching Orbitz, Expedia, Travelocity, separately when there is an easier solution at kayak.com
