When I first heard that Frommer’s was coming out with a guidebook called “500 places to see before they disappear,” I thought to myself…what a dismal and depressing book to read.  But after picking up a copy I found it to be a great place to explore new destinations.

The book covers natural wonders, man-made structures and even kitschy oddities from every corner of the earth. Inclusions range from the obvious, Venice and Antarctica…to eccentric items like the Paul Bunyan Statues of Minnesota. 

In addition to providing the normal guidebook tips (how to get there, where to stay)…the book explains why the location might cease to exist and what travelers can do to help keep it alive.  The truth is…the book uplifts you more than it brings you down.
