CitizenM

Posted by Staff in Budget Thursdays, Netherlands

CitizenM hotel in Amsterdam, has taken the “pod hotel” concept to the next level.  CitizenM, which is short for citizen mobile, has compact rooms that are packed with amenities usually unheard of in a budget hotel.

To make the most of the small space (150 sq ft), there is no separation between the living and bathroom space.  The shower and toilets are in individual glass tubes, reminiscent of the Star Trek transporters. In room amenities include, flat screen TVs, extra large king bed with high-end linens, a high-powered rain shower, mood lighting, and free on-demand movies, music and wifi.  Gadget lovers will swoon over the touch screen mood pad, a master remote control for the whole room.

While making reservations through their website, you can “customize” your room by presetting the mood lights, music and temperature. When you leave you can keep your room keycard which remembers your room settings for your next stay, and doubles as a luggage tag.

The innovative and modern design continues in the lobby, which features a 24-hour self service cafe, along with a bar, boutique and lounges.

The hotel is located at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport and prices start at 69€. In their words, “[CitizenM is] where luxury and budget sleep together in one big bed.”  Other locations in Europe are already in the works…to learn more visit citizenm.com
